Novel Writing

Novel Writing

Are you intimidated by the idea of writing an entire novel on your own? Our novel course breaks down the process into its constituent parts and makes it much easier to tackle. With the help of your tutor, you can devise intriguing plots and convincing conflicts, before crafting an effective ending. We’ll also show you how to establish major and minor characters who are memorable and dynamic. If you can write a few pages a week, you’ll soon finish your first novel.

It is said that everyone has one great novel inside them, if only they knew how to write it.  But novel-writing is a craft which is developed by practice, determination and careful study.  Your second novel should actually be better than your first!  The Writing School’s course in Novel Writing will show you how to harness your inspiration and personal experience into something which will thrill your target audience.

There are many different kinds of novel and part of the challenge is to find the kind of novel which you will enjoy writing and your audience will enjoy reading. Whether it is a thriller, a romance, comedy, historical fiction, a whodunit or even science fiction, we will give you the technical skills to express your vision effectively and find a voice with which you can communicate with the world.

Writing a novel is major undertaking and your tutor will also have struggled, at some point in their career, to make the best of their novel-wring talent. Your personal tutor will do his or her best to make sure you learn the best way to realize your talent and reach a suitable readership, just as they have done in time. Your tutor will give detailed attention to your assignments, fifteen in all, tailored to the needs of a developing novelist.

At first the assignments will be carefully structured, but in time there will also be the opportunity to work on specific projects that correspond to your own interests and aspirations and perhaps even to submit short draft chapters from your emerging novel. The experience for every learner on the Writing School’s course in Novel-Writing is unique – you will have the chance to take your relationship with your tutor in a direction that you have decided between you will be the most productive.

You study at your own speed, taking months or even years to complete the course, but by the time you finish you will be equipped to realise the potential that is hidden within every aspiring novelist. Whether you aspire to write like Graham Greene, Dan Brown or even E.B. White, we will help you unleash your most colourful prose and create a range of characters who will live long in the reader’s memory.
